Butyl Technology combines our experience and continued product development to provide our users with products that match the specific applications required. Butyl Tape is chemically inert, therefore it will resist oxidation, and will remain permanently elastic, resistant to cracking, and will not degrade under Ultra-violet light. It can adhere to metal, glass, porcelain, concrete, plastic, polycarbonate, wood, and marble. We can extrude any thickness, width or length to meet your specific needs, so please speak to us if you have any specific requirements that are not covered in our current ranges.
Bu-Tack 1 (B1)
B1 is a preformed high performance polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape available in single strand or multi-lane rolls. This product has a multitude of applications where joints need to be formed to seal against air and water ingress. The product is cost effective, nontoxic, forms an instant seal and requires no tools to apply and has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years when correctly used and applied. For the roofing and cladding industry B1 has been independently tested to the requirements of the NFRC (The National Federation of Roofing Contractors) Technical Bulletin 36 and achieved class “A” rating. Bu-Tack 2 (B2)
B2 is a similar butyl tape product to B1 but with enhanced adhesive characteristics for more demanding applications where there are requirements for a degree of bonding particularly difficult materials such as polyethylene in the damp proof/jointing market. For this sector, B2 has a lower water vapour permeability than B1. A copy of results carried out on B2 by an independent body, (VERSAPERM LIMITED), with regards to water permeability can be downloaded below.
Bu-Tack Putty/Tape
Is a self-amalgamating electrical insulation and moulding tape. This product is especially good for the use around uneven surfaces for low and medium voltage applications where connections on to busbars and bushings need to be insulated and to create a smooth profile on these connections.
Bu-Tack WRAS Water tanks (WRAS)
WRAS is a preformed high performance polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape available in single strand rolls. This product main application is where joints need to be formed to seal against air and water ingress in steel water tanks (Braithwaite Tanks). The product is cost effective, nontoxic, forms an instant seal and requires no tools to apply and has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years when correctly used and applied. Bu-Tack Tracking (TR)
TR is a preformed high performance polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape available in single strand rolls. This product main application is in securing automotive/vehicle tracking units usually hidden in a vehicle for security and tracking purposes. The product is cost effective, nontoxic, forms an instant seal and requires no tools to apply and has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years when correctly used and applied.
Dent Putty
is a high-performance butyl based putty packed in individual units. This product is generally used for dent removal in the automotive industry and works best when used in combination with a sliding hammer (bearing puller). The product can also be used for general dent removal with a high force pulling motion. The product is cost effective, non-toxic and reusable.
Butyl-X
is a one component durable butyl mastic based on polybutene. A surface skin is formed 48 hours after application. This product is to be used to seal joints subject to low movement and no mechanical stress.

Custom Butyl Product Development
Allow us to create a custom butyl tape to meet your specific requirements
At Butyl Technology, we take great pride in our custom and practice of developing new products in close liaison with any potential customer. This allows for our development staff to take account of a customer’s specific requirements, and either create a new formulation, or modify an existing one, resulting in a product which meets or exceeds customer expectations. Small quantity trial mixes can be produced and extruded into samples for customer evaluation, and only when full customer approval has been obtained will the new product be offered for full production runs. Nor are existing products ignored. Butyl Technology has a policy of constant development, and as raw materials change in character and availability, so Butyl Technology works to take account of these changes. The result of this on-going process is to give customers more cost-effective solutions and continuity of supply of quality butyl tapes.
Alternative backings present an on-going challenge. No longer is it enough to offer standard release paper. There are requirements for extrusion onto film, pre-printed papers, permanent liners and substrates such as plastics, textiles and foils. Materials can also be introduced into tapes as cords or nylon inserts. There may also be a need for various profiles to be extruded. Sometimes a “U” section; maybe a “P” section. Maybe something else. These are all demands that are regularly met by R&D at Butyl Technology, the Butyl Tape Specialists.
